By eye, the spring shackles on my 30 Tudor look fine on the car. There is no real difference in height between the left and the right compared to the axle. They take grease when I grease them. So what should I look for when evaluating them? Not that I'm looking to find a problem that doesn't exist....

You can get a rough idea by looking at how central the shackle pin is in the eye of the main leaf. The next stage is to use a (big) lever under the eye to try to lift the car slightly while watching the pin area for movement.
