Contact Ross. He is very active in the 180A club and maintains the registry, which is very detailed. I haven't belonged in yrs and the paperwork I had from that club is long gone. A good club, tho.

Had one in our club, but the owner restored it to be a left hand drive, then sold it about 6 years ago.

There was a great picture in the Restorer many years ago of a line of South American phaetons ready for shipment to the U.S. most of them were Deluxe Phaetons.

Bill who was the guy some 40± years ago that was doing all the importing of the RHD 180A's? He used to advertise in Hemmings and other places. Was it Dr. Kaplan? I know there was a couple of them that came to the Houston area.

Dr Marcello Kaplan, was the guy in Argentina, who found the cars and organised them for shipment. My RHD Victoria and a 1930 180A came to New Zealand via him. Him and His U.S. counterpart (Sam Sherman?) advertised regulary in Hemmings in the 70s.

BEST ADVISE i can give you [ join the 180A CLUB] 180-A BODY STYLE GROUP , C/O , ROSS MILNE ,32 RICHMOND DRIVE , BRAMPTON ON L6W 2E9 CANADA..If you want to get anywhere soon. Jim Antoni , 828 Hansen pl. IL. Makes the BEST WOOD KIT.! All others suck [just ask Bill Sturm when he tries to install the interior]. The pillar support we found 3 types.. with the crows feet. The ones i have in the car are STEEL STAMPED. What i did was to place a STEEL round shaft right up the wood pillar[bolt it down] and re-in-forced it with Marine glue .That sucker does not move... There are a lot of ways, guys re-in-force the tub.. We have 6,,,180-A's here in a 20 mile circle. There was 8 ,,to left the farm...

Kaplan still sells, but with the dollar where it is and shipping costs, hardly worthwhile in
todays market.

you can find him under Kaplanfamily.com I believe.

Wood for the 180A...Brent Terry is correct...make your own and pay particular attention to the curved pieces in the belt rail. Briggs finger jointed that corner for a reason...there is more stress at that bend than the cross section of wood can not handle. The photos I have attached show the crack that occurred across the narrow part when the carriage bolts holding the assembly together were tightened...maybe 1500 psi? That joint should be laminated or finger jointed as shown in the second picture with the original belt rail being held below the reproduction. Finally, the third picture illustrates what is offered by one (not named) replacement wood shops...I have many more pictures but this should scare the heck out of you if you are doing one of these cars.

I have Argentine 31 RHD body tag 159-5596 wonder how close it is to your car . Under the body tag the original body colour was Ford Maroon . Not yet restored starting it after 28 pheaton is completed later this year. There are another 4 de luxe pheatons in UK all fom Agentina/Uruguay RHD ,all restored to a high standard . I will stay with the Ford maroon orange pinstripe and wheels .

Very close. There is an "s" in there...

http://www.kaplansfamily.com/index2.htm

Was his partner in the export/inport business back in the 70's Jim Sherman?

There might of been a few right hand drive 180A's but QUICKLY change to left hand drive... The return of $$$$ is a issue. I had 2 that 1 now is a High end Rod and the other in parts went back to where right hand driving is. First thing you should do is join the 180A club. CONTACT is 180-A Body Style Group. c/o Ross Milne , 32 Richmond Drive , Brampton ON L6W 2E9 Canada . DON'T TRY Don Bivens of Canton MI. as listed in MARC Mag. you might as well try getting milk from a bull. He has been out of it for YEARS ! Second don't but any wood from Classic Wood .. too too fat in places and i called Fordwood years ago and seems they did not do 180A 'S they might be buying it from Class WOOD and became a middle man...WHO KNOWS ? Can't tell you what to do but right to left drive is your best bet. Look for a nice complete chassis and a gas tank. A pair of Stanchions too because the hole for the mirror is on the right side and not the left... Good Luck what ever road you pick... the hard part is the correct front seat frames.. if your is not correct.p.s. Al jr. did make another run of the ZINC DOOR . SILLS. also check who has reproduction top iron[ as of now] ????
