Default Wire Harnesses - for early fords

I'm interested in a new complete wire harness for my 36 pickup. YNZ Yesterdays Parts seems reasonable and they make exactly like originals. Anyone used harnesses from them? I'm not familiar with them until I found them on the web.

Thanks,
Pat

They should be OK. They have been around for a while. Another is Rhode Island Wire. RIW coats there wire in clear lacquer. Other resto parts suppliers purchase & resell harnesses from an outfit way up in the northwest that doesn't sell to the public and they are the lowest price. They may not be the best quality though but they work. Some folks like what Ron Francis has to offer and there are others.

Most of them sell the harnesses separate so It's hard to tell what the end cost is going to be until you purchase all the stuff you actually need to complete the job. It can get expensive after it's all said and done but it's easier than trying to replicate an old harness when you can't even tell what color the wires were anymore.

We rewired our 36 phaeton with a harness from Sacramento Vintage Ford in Rancho Cordoba, CA They claimed to have the "original" manufacturing equipment to duplicate the original harness.

I like Narragansett reproductions for original wiring harnesses. I do my own for my cars and get materials from Rhode Island wiring for cloth coatings

I would be wary of claims from vendors that don't manufacture much of what they sell. OEM manufacturers used to make up a jig to put harnesses together so they could string it out and have all the correct lengths and terminals in the correct places. When they made a major change they either made a new jig which could have actually been attached to a wall for all I know. Needless to say, few original harness set up jigs or boards likely survived from the manufacturers.

Most of the current fabricators use a standard insulated wire wrapped by a cloth cover that is woven on to give the appearance of originality. Original wire was covered with a resin and then the cloth was woven on so the modern type wire ends up being slightly larger in cross sectional diameter that the original was. When they can copy the original weave patterns for the dual stripe markings or tracers, then you know they likely have old style wire manufacturing equipment and a lot of information from old original harnesses to be able to make the wire in an authentic form. There are only a few reproduction fabricators that do this in an accurate manor.

Narragansett has a photo of their old weaving machine. http://www.narragansettreproductions...g-harness.html

Rhode Island Wire and a few others likely have the same or similar equipment. Whether any of it is original to Ford Motor Company's production is questionable.

Y n Z made the harness for my 40 Tonner. I was fortunate to be able to visit their shop in Redlands and speak directly with the lady who was putting my harness together and as a result the turn signal wiring is buried in the harness. I also used them to make a harness for my 33 Chrysler Imperial which has been copied by other Chrysler restorers. I can highly recommend them.

Sacramento Vintage Ford makes a nice stock harness. I've used them before and in the past they have been very reasonable on their price. When I checked around awhile back they were the cheapest and they make them in house.

I live in Redlands and worked with Gene years ago when he had a different day job so I have some obvious bias. That said Gene is a good guy and knows his stuff. If I was looking for a top notch original harness I'd go with YandZ no questions asked buts that's JMO.
