Penrite did have a good blurb on this, but they seem to have removed most of it. Too scary I guess.

Their Classic Car Coolant can be used with water, or added to coolant to beef up the corrosion inhibitors:

30 Closed Cab, Great point in your last Post.

" This muddies things for me. Ethylene Glycol is the green stuff. The info uses "may" - under what conditions does this happen? If this is a problem, is it due to wearing out the additives over an extended period, does adding freshening additives to it correct these issues, etc?"

Thanks,
Hugh

If you live in a cold climate then its coolant. If is running cool now (your summer) then leave it in all year round. As Scotty said, change it every few years and you'll be fine.
I'd be more concerned about the old chunks of rust detaching from the block and blocking the tubes. Get a filter like the Gano.

I was told that with a fresh radiator, and a completely rebuilt motor, and using antifreeze - in my case filter is not necessary and the flow reduction of a Gano may cause cooling issues.

Your thoughts?

I've seen the Scotty video previously. It has a lot good info, but is centered a little around more modern vehicles, especially talking about galvanic/electrical info which is more of an issue with motors cooling/systems using dissimilar metals including aluminum. With stock As, not as much as a problem. I like that he stressed at the end not to mix types, and to flush (flush has to be really thorough by the way) if converting from one type to another. Otherwise really nasty things can happen, the coolant can turn to sludge, including destroying the motor.

I wanted to read the penrite links but a table of contents blocks about half of what is on the page. How do I get that off the screen so I can read the info?

You pays your money and takes your chances with a 90 year old block that has been dipped in a tank and flushed or something after it has spent most of its life full of water. I'll be using a filter on my new Bergs. When the new Bergs gets blocked it will have flow problems anyway.

Anyone having flow problems with a Gano filter speak now...

Follow the instructions on the can.

Turn your phone sideways or read it on a bigger screen.

Has anyone thought to ask the radiator builder what they recommend? Didn't see that mentioned and I would guess they have some thoughts. Out here in sunny CA we run a lot of things. I have a friend that uses an oz. or two of Dishwashing machine detergent with a good two oz of soluble oil. If that gets on the paint it doesn't take much effort to make the car look fine again, Some of the antifreezes are tough on paint, so I am told. Gano filter should be checked and flushed as needed,

"Most dishwasher detergents are incompatible for use with silver, brass, cast iron, bronze, pewter, and goldleaf.[2] They can also harm disposable plastic, anything wood, knives with hollow handles, and fine glassware."

I've seen others mention and have used Dawn dishwashing soap and Arm and Hammer Washing Soda (not Baking Soda). Anyone heard anything negative about using these?
