Default Starter drive

FYI I purchased a new style starter that has the new drive doing away with the bendix spring, I purchased it from Mac's ( not their fault they are only the vendor) It has locked up on me four times already in maybe 50 starts. & yes I have the starter bracket installed. Has any one else had this problem? This is on my 34 pickup. 6 volt. Any comments or advice would be welcome.
Thank you.
Gary.

I always select my drives from the trash piles, or the 1$ box, but do pay for new locks, and nos bolts, the one on the "A" has worked untouched for 35 years, I also have a Ford bendix on my Citroen, my V8s also have had used drives without problems when used with new bendix bolts and locks.

I looked at the "modern" bendixes at Hershey, they looked like crude chinese low bidder parts ---just because I was curious , it looked like some of the troublesome Citroen drives I was replacing in the 70s with Ford drives (for pre66 citroens).

You will have trouble with any drive if the teeth on your flywheel are damaged or have burrs.

Search modern starter drive on the "A" side, there are some pictures of your problem.

Some of the "A" Guys have had problems with these drives. I have one in my car and am thinking about switching back to the original style.

My opinion,

Chris

I don't think I'd like to hear a Flattie with a Chinese accent. That's just wrong.
