Light switch
Hello all! My 1930 Tudor has an issue with the headlight control on the steering wheel. The previous owner has definitely replaced it. Their seems to be too much down pressure on it. When I turn the wheel it constantly turns the headlights on.
Is their something down on the switch under the hood I can adjust or is it in the wheel itself? Any input would be much appreciated. |

Re: Light switch
There are not any adjustments that you could do.
Try taking apart the switch on the bottom of the column. There are 3 indents that the spider rides on. If its a new switch then you might need to flare out the holes so the spider is not so tight that the lights come on as you mentioned. https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/c...11655-67-2.pdf Last edited by old31; 10-01-2022 at 09:53 AM. |

Re: Light switch
I had this problem about 2 or 3 years ago with a new wiring harness. I followed the instructions on the Bratton's website and this fixed it. https://www.brattons.com/30-31-ONE-B...uctinfo/20360/

Re: Light switch
If it is turning ON the headlights when turning the steering wheel, the first thing I would look at is the horn hod. It is all but impossible to install or remove it on a closed car with the steering column installed. The horn rod will be blocked by the headliner. The steering column must be lowered or removed. If it is bent it will cause the problem you describe.

Re: Light switch
Is the little brass sleave in place under the light switch handle above the nut that holds the steering wheel on?

Re: Light switch
I've read, but not experienced, that the repro rods can be a bit too fat and need to be dressed down with coarse sand paper. I think it was at the top of the column.

Re: Light switch
I have experienced the "fat" repro rod, had to file down the top where it goes into the column.
