Default charging system problem

I have a 41 ford with a 50 ford truck engine, and its 6volts. It stopped charging and I was wondering if there is an easy way to test and rule out the generator? Can you charge the field connection and expect to voltage output jump from the generator?

Might want to consider getting a shop manual. The 1949-50-51-52 FORD F-SERIES TRUCKS SHOP MANUAL has a section on testing and trouble shooting the charging system.

Junkyard test of generator is hook field and armature to power and you get a motor, if it spins good check regulator.
Donīt forget to take away wires and belt before testing....
And as Jseery said a manual is your best friend when trouble shooting !

If you are connecting the ARM & FLD what do you connect each wire to ? Doe the ARM go to the Neg side of a 6 volt battery, and the FLD to the positive ground ?

Also, rumble seat did a great article on trouble shooting generators & regulators. Hope I go this right. www.btc-bci.com/-billben/6volt.htm

Ground of generator to power ground.
Field and armature to power feed
Then you got a motor if al is well and working.
On a flathead positive battery to casing of generator and negative battery to armature and field.
