Default 59AB In A `51 Pickup

Just curious, will a 59AB bolt up to a`51 transmission?

1951 was a transition year, and the trans may not fit without an adapter. However the 49-50 transmissions will. A better choice would be the 49-50 Mercury trans with OD, you might have some clutch linkage putzing to do.

The 59A type engine will fit up to a 51 pickup transmission but there are other differences that may affect the installation. You will have to use the earlier clutch & flywheel for the 59A types. The early type water pumps will fit up to the frame OK. As long as you own the truck, you will know what is different on the front. The next guy down the road will be scratching his head for sure.
