New Website
I am working on a website for Newbie’s. My goal is to give them enough knowledge to feel comfortable to be able to drive, repair and maintain their Model ‘A’. Today is the first day for the website to be up and running. Let me know what you think. When the carburetor is finished my next project is the distributer and timing.

Re: New Website
I AM IMPRESSED!!!!
Very nice job! There has been a need for a site where the novice Model A Owner can go to for the basics. I have had experience with someone new to the hobby getting all frustrated with not being able to get good basic information. Your approach should eleminate a lot of the frustration and allow a "Newbie" to get more enjoyment out of his Model A and not get all bogged down when confronted with a simple problem. A lot of the fun and satisfaction of owning a Model A is being able to drive it and then having a basic understanding to make simple repairs when a minor problem crops up. Good work, Chris |

Re: New Website
What a great start for an educational site. I already have it as one of my favorites. I'm sure it will be used by more than just "newbies". Are you using Solid Works for the drawings? Keep up the good work. Don/WI

Re: New Website
Well done, if you can explain electrical cures you'll have about twice as many A's running this year.

Re: New Website
For timing the ignition, I'd recommend Marco's method. I've been using it for 6 years, but I always go back to the article to ensure I'm doing it correctly. It is very intuitive and yields excellent results.
I'm not sure Marco is OK with linking to his site, but this is the relevant information. http://www.abarnyard.com/workshop/timing.htm

Re: New Website
As a newbie, I would prefer videos rather than static text and illustrations. Camtasia is a good tool for posting home videos from your camera. It feels good to have somebody walk you through the steps, rather than try to read them.
A video tour of the major components of the car would be nice. Also, as a newbie, I stay clear of the carb. That seems like an advanced subject to start out with. Plus, I heard a funny saying that 90% of all carb problems are ignition related. So when my car started running badly, I replaced every ignition part in it. Now it runs smooth as silk. During that process, I would have loved a few videos on the subject. It would be nice to view a five-minute video on proper lubrication. I used the Les Andrew's book and got through it. But it was scary changing the fluids and greasing all the fittings the first time.

I was surprised when I opened your link on the quality of the illustrations! Top notch!
For those of you who haven't gone to the site yet, Here is one of the drawings, and the type of stuff you are missing out on!

Re: New Website
One common thing that causes trouble is having too many gaskets between the main jet and the body. People try to overhaul a carburetor and fail to remove the old gasket.

30ccpickup ---
Thank you for the wonderful site. I'm new to Model As and am trying to 'learn as I go'. I feel like I've got a hundred stupid questions every day and hate asking them...this is a great place to start learning without bothering all of the experts running around here! Thanks again and looking forward to more information! //Robert

Re: New Website
Superbly done! Great animations as well. Very clear and concise.
My only suggestion - get rid of the fancy script font in your labeling. It makes it harder to read, and especially older gents with poor eyesight to begin with. You did a great job though. Way beyond anything I could ever do. |

Re: New Website
Now that the cool factor for me. Fonts like those that were used on the old patent drawings, along with the modern animation by computer. Sort of Steampunk
