As a rule of thumb for a traditional tyre like that, the wall height equals the stated width size (in other words the aspect ratio is 100%). so just multiply the width times two and add the rim diameter.

6.50 * 2 = 13

13 + 16 = 29.

That's a 29 inch tyre as near as dammit is to swearing.

6.00:16 =28
6.50:16 =29
7.00:16 =30
7.50:16 =31

As for radials you need the tallest aspect ratio as even the tallest do not approach 100%

For a replacement for a 6.50:16 I'd look for a 205-16 tyre in as non-offroady tread pattern as possible. My GMC pickup is shod with 205-16's and it looks ok. In a radial if the aspect ratio is not stated it is 82%. Anything lower than this is "low profile". This is ok for trucks, for cars you really need the new type of radials specifically marketed for old car use by specialist tyre places (Coker, Diamondback etc)

All 6:50 x 16" tires are not the same in height. Replacement 6:50X16 Goodyear's are a full 1" taller. I have them on my pickup. They also have the correct tread pattern.
