Is this a 28 roadster body?
Is this a 28 roadster body or a mixture of pieces, something does not look right to me at the rear upper seat area and with the lower windshield stanchions, I know very little about the 28/29's? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Is this a 28 roadster body?
It looks like a 1928 or a1929 roadster body. There maybe a build date code on the top left hand corner of the gas tank, this is only providing that this is the same tank that came with the car. HOPE THIS HELP !!!

Either a 28 or 29. I have found two roadster bodies in the past couple of months. Your lucky that one is inside.

Re: Is this a 28 roadster body?
If the rear body crossmember is present, a 28 or early 29 has three 5/16" D nuts on the left corner for the taillight bracket. Later 29's had the taillight bracket mount on the left rear fender. The door is a 28 as the latch has the inside handle only. I would say it is a 28, from what I can see.

I was told it was an early 28, want to be sure before making an offer.

Re: Is this a 28 roadster body?
Looks a lot like my 1929 Roadster PU which is in process of being reconstructed. The cowl post is broken, but can be welded. 1928 brake lever. A lot better shape than my PU was when I bought it. Don't know about the rear corners, but I would GUESS they are correct, just in poor shape. Good luck!

Re: Is this a 28 roadster body?
Yep....it's a Roadster.
1. It's not early,....3rd style chock mount, no e-brake hole in the kick panel.... 2. Top hole missing for the rear spare....repop panel or did it have side mounts? 3. Can't tell about the tail light. 4. "T" door latch 5. Hole filled for the W/S Sanctions? Maybe late 28 before outside door handles... |

Re: Is this a 28 roadster body?
Can not tell if it has holes for the tailamp bracket, but headlamp buckets look single bulb '28 to early '29.
An early tank would not have a date & it was just the tank test date, not the car. Look on metal subframe near the seat base or doors for a Plant assembly letter & number. Lacing for the webbing on the radiator shell? This was early feature. Are the rear bumper medallions stamped Ford in the centre? That was done up to early '28. The early tanks had the oval gas sight glass [ sometimes with magnification] vertical but '29's were horizontal . |

Re: Is this a 28 roadster body?
I just noticed the frame horn and radiator apron in the picture in #8 on the driver's side. Looks like you better check the frame for damage.
Here are two pictures showing a June 1928 Tudor cowl lace, and the cowl lace, (which is missing on my 9-27-28), but you can see the difference in the mounting area for the lace. The front edge of the cowl lace is close to being in line with the rear edge of the tank lace on my car, but sets about an inch rearward on the June 1928 cowl. Also notice the tank date location in my first picture. This also shows the original gas tank lace and how the wire, which runs through the center of the lace (NOT OVER IT), is secured. Notice also the rounded cut in the corner of the gas tank for my 9-27-28 vs. the square cut of the June 1928 tank. |

Looks like a good Ford Roadster body to me !
Buy it before it gets a 327 garbage truck motor. MIKE (mikeburch) |
