Re: front wheel brg grease
Any modern wheel brg grease will certainly work on a Model A. The new grease out today can withstand high temps and high speeds should be good to go for you.

Re: front wheel brg grease
I like the Lucus heavy duty wheel bearing grease, it seems to be heavier than many of the other options.

Re: front wheel brg grease
Corn Head grease from any John Deere dealer is very stringy and stiff stuff. Never used it but it ought to be stiff enough.

Re: front wheel brg grease
I just use whatever the cheapest bearing grease is available. It is still better than what was available when these cars were built. No need for high temp as you are not running disks and these cars just don't go fast enough to warrant it. Now, that having been said, if the high temp grease is the cheapest, that is what I buy.

Re: front wheel brg grease
I use boat wheel bearing grease made by Stalube (blue in color); its water proof and has a drop point of 450 degrees. Been using it for over 35 years on my A's and so far have never lost a wheel bearing.

Re: front wheel brg grease
Specifications can be found in the November 1932 Ford Service Bulletin.
For wheel bearings, Ford specified an NLGI grade 4 grease in the 1932 Service Bulletins. This grease is firmer than the commonly used NLGI grade 2 multi-purpose grease most everyone uses today for wheel bearings. I believe the NLGI grade 4 was specified to reduce leakage. However today we use better seals allowing the use of thinner NLGI 2 grease which I believe is better for wheel bearings. |

Re: front wheel brg grease
Also use Mystik JT-6, red. I place a little in the palm of my hand and press the bearing into it repeatedly, until red comes out the other side. Then rotate and repeat.

Re: front wheel brg grease
I use a real tacky grease called Big Foot. The only place I can get it is when I'm in Alaska. It is so Tacky it will make a string 4 feet long.

Re: front wheel brg grease
can't get Mystik around here.
Been using Mobil 1 WB grease since that is what we use on everything else. It has good body and is sticky.

Re: front wheel brg grease
Take one of those Butter tubs that hold about a quart. Go to a Truck/stop or repair shop and have them shoot it full of grease or get a scoop out of there big tub.
Tell them you need it for your antique car. I have a Family member who's a Trucker and that's how I get my grease. |
