Default Shock arm link question

I've been checking out my Model 'A' and doing a lube getting ready for the National Tour coming up in Elkins West Virginia. When I went to lube the passenger front shock link it turned back and forth which didn't seem right. Other side it doesn't move like this.

Here's a video I took of it. https://youtu.be/l5upe8J-elM

Any tips on what I might need to do to fix this? Thanks,

YouTube says the video is unavailable. Perhaps you have not turned on sharing for it?

I think the level of sharing you need to select is called "Unlisted". If you select Private, no one else can watch it.

Sorry about that, I just changed the setting on the video.

It will turn some as it is rotating on a ball. I did note that it appears you are missing the rubber seal on both ends.

Good to know. Thanks Ruth. It just seemed excessive compared to the other side.

Look at a drawing of how the shock link is assembled. Here's a good one:
https://www.brattons.com/assemblies/...sembly-15.html

Look at the parts inside and the instructions for assembly and tightening. Yours might not be tight enough.

The other tight links might have a lot of dried grease in them. And the rubber grease seals, when in good condition, do stop the link from turning so easily. There is also supposed to be a metal cap over the rubber piece. But if the rubber is missing or damaged, you don't have that restriction on movement.

If you take the link off to clean it up, add the rubber parts, etc., check the shock absorber operation by moving the arm up and down with your hand. There should be some pretty good resistance to movement if the shock is working.

Thanks Jim.

I'll take it apart and tighten them up some and also add those rubber pieces after checking the shock movement. I greatly appreciate the tips. Every day I learn a little bit more about this interesting vehicle.

Jim, what did you find when removing the link. I have the exact same problem as your vid showed, same side too actually. Thanks.

When adding the rubber pieces to both top and bottom, you'll probably find a significant tightening of the link so much so that getting everything put back together might be a bit challenging. Following is my PDF write-up on my experience of installing shock links. Good luck
