Default How Much Snow Did You Get Here In New England??

Hey, we put the chains on the Stoddard - Dayton Speed Car and went to McNeils Grocery Store and stocked up, but we only got 12" in Vermont. Still having high winds though, if they do not knock out the power we will be all set.

How much snow did the rest of you get and where??

Here is a link to some neat old Nor'easter photos. And here to learn all about Nor'easter's

Dunno' the wind is still blowing too hard and it is still coming down. I have spots around the corner of the barn where I can see the ground, but I can't see my car just 20 feet away. Local news says 2 feet with drifts up to 6 feet.

Same here in central CT, 3 1/2' drift at back door, had great trouble getting it open. Dog tried to go out, turned around and came back in. Gov has closed ALL roads in the state. I haven't seen a plow since 10 last night. Not going to be a quick clean up, that's for sure.

Here in very-southern New England, we got just about a foot. I would love to take the Model A out in it, but she is down with exhaust troubles. Oh well...

WOW....Here is what the NY times has up on their site and you can read much more there.

The storm pounded New England overnight and instead of dissipating, it only seemed to gain strength by Saturday morning, with snow blowing horizontally. Forecasters said that in some areas, snow had accumulated at the astonishing rate of four inches per hour, creating whiteout conditions. Boston had more than two feet.

More than 400,000 homes were without power, leading to potentially dangerous conditions since the temperature in Boston was minus 4 degrees. Many roads were impassable, prompting cities and towns to send special vehicles to pick up people to take them to warming centers and regional shelters.

The National Weather Service said that “wind gusts as high as 70 mph are possible, creating blizzard conditions that will make travel hazardous, if not impossible.” Boston reported winds as high as 58 miles per hour late Friday night, by which time the roadways, including Interstate 93, were deserted.

While the forecasters had initially predicted that Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket would be particularly hard it, the islands were mostly drenched in rain because of the warmer ocean temperatures. But the Cape and islands recorded some of the highest wind gusts, with those in the town of Buzzards Bay reaching 71 miles per hour. Winds on Nantucket reached 59.

I'm about 15 miles in from the seacoast, but I can't really tell how much we have.On most of the flats the snow is level with the top of my plow, two feet. Then the ground is bare, then it is as high as the truck.I just saw that we should get a few more inches then it will wind down.If it had been wet snow I would have had to start plowing at 4 PM yesterday, and stay with it.With the cold it is fluffy and light,I can push it,there is just a lot of it.I have 19 places I plow, plus when it is like this I pick up 5-10 more for one time.Peoples plows, tractors, snowblowers break,or they normally shovel but find $30.really isn't much to pay to sit in the house and look out the window. My road isn't plowed yet,so the town is having problems right now.One of the town guys called to ask if my Bobcat was available,I told them it was in the garage with the key in it.Sounds like theirs is broken.Around midnight a few of the boys plowing for the state got sidelined, they had no clue where they were going. They couldn't even see the backsides of their plows from the drivers seats.I Know the feeling well.It is pretty scarey, you lose all sense of direction, right, left,up down,if you keep picking something up and dropping it your senses will come back once up and down is established. You also feel like you are the only the only person left in the world.

A foot I guess, enough to kill my weekend plans. Rent a van, pick up a chassis, attend a "Garage Night" at a shop in New York state. Enterprise closed early yesterday and isn't open today. Maybe next year for the get together, and next weekend for the frame, I'd been looking forward to this trip for well over a month. Bob

We got 32 cm (almost 13") with drifts up to 4'. I think that the US east coast got it a lot worse than that. The Maritimes in Canada is getting pounded as we speak.

Driveway is blown out and shovelled and we have a very nice day here.

I have about 1/4 of my plowing done.A lot of the roads aren't plowed where I have to go,so that lets me off the hook with the people who are anxious. If I plow them out they can't go anywhere anyway. My main casualty so far is my yellow light on the top of the truck.I have a 96 Dodge 3/4 ton with a Cummins in it,the snow is coming up over the plow, over the hood, over the windshield, then over the roof, taking the light with it.It looks like I have 30 inches in the front yard,I have two rotweilers that look like submarines going through it.Just the heads sticking up as they race around.Their backs are over two feet tall. They seem to like it.

IN south Jersey a few inches-no big deal.

We live in a terrible state as- the world thinks.... no tornadoes, no snakes, no earthquakes and a WAWA on every corner! We didn't even lose power during Sandy.....

I can't stand it..... Tastykakes anyone....?

It is funny that you ask about a snotrack, last week was supposed to be the National meet in VT for the Model T Snomobile/snotrack club, it was canceled due to no snow and I believe it was NOT going to be rescheduled this year!

Figgure abot 30-36 and counting on the mid coast of Maine - wind so hard it's drifting the snow in under doors with good weatherstripping. Wicked good blow, but I need to plow again before dark...

It was up to my crotch walking up to the barn to get the tractor out, not counting drifts. Got the tractor going and it took an hour to open the drive enough to get to the house, and got stuck. Had to shovel out the tractor. Went back up and took off the plow and put on the bucket, and removed the snow one bucket full at a time until I could make it to the street. I opened the neighbor's driveways and by then I was cold and getting leg cramps and a sore back from twisting around to see when backing. Neighbor came with kids to shovel the walk to the back door, which I had to force open to get out. Had to walk close to the house to get to the driveway, as there was a 4 foot drift in the walk. 5 foot drifts on the roof. Hope some melts before it rains. Pictures later.

I called My Son up in Northeastern NY, he said about 14". He was just getting ready to go out and Plow. This was at 9:00 am this morning. I was just applying Sun Blok at a Car Show west of Sarasota with the Model A Huckster. His Mother went with me, and wished I had dropped her off at Venice Beach for the Day. Temp here today was 82 - 83 and Not a Cloud in the Sky.

30" here in SE CT, 14 miles inland, with much higher drifts. The wind scoured the main house roof almost clear, but dumped everything on the ell roof. Guess I'll be raking tomorrow.

Most of our roofs are pretty clear. The wind kept them scoured pretty well.I just finished plowing, now I can plow my own yard.We have four stations in town that sell diesel, every one was out.I don't think I've ever seen that before.I had to rob 5 gallons from my furnace to get through the plow route.Tomorrow I'll get to spend 4 or 5 hours on the Bobcat cleaning around the garages, parking spots, and piling up the snow.Years ago I would spend 20-40 hours in a plow truck, then spend another 10 in a dump truck hauling snow out of the center of town.I'm not missing that.In the blizzard of 78 I worked for a couple of weeks for different people.I jumped from loader to loader,to a grader,to a farm tractor.I slept mostly on steering wheels but I was 22 and didn't need much sleep. This little storm took me 20 hours, but I slept in the middle.

Once you get to the barn you can get the old buggy out and go for a ride in the snow.

I didn't measure, but I know this. I have a 32-34 inch inseam, and when I was walking out to the garage on Saturday morning, it would have been nice if my legs were an inch or 2 longer.

Default Re: How Much Snow Did You Get Here In New England??

North Shore of Long Island, Northport, had over two feet of snow and the Coast Guard Station a mile from my home reported winds over 70 MPH which did wonders as I attempted to use the snow blower, but no matter what I did with th3e shoot, it blew onto me so I came in looking like Doctor Zhvago after he walked across Siberia, kind of like a snowman.
Our Model A Club had an event Sunday with twenty people in their modern SUV's, and one brave Sport Coupe showing up for Valentines Party Luncheon. Local streets are still a challenge and even the LIE was CLOSED all night SUNDAY NIGHT while they tried to remove cars with fork lifts and plowed it with equipment borrowed from NYS Thruway and others.
Mutual assistance abounded including people snow blowing local streets.
These cars were all caught around five PPM Friday and drivers spent the night either i their cars or a local WalMart that stayed open and let them use lawn chairs and buy food all night.
