Default Fordor Deluxe Identification

The widow of a fellow club member is looking to sell his Model A. She has asked some of us from the club to help her. The car is a 1931, Murray, slant windshield, deluxe (single left side mount), steel back/blind back. Is that a 170B(Dlx.) body type? Does anyone know how many of that model were manufactured in l931? Thanks for your help.

If it is a 170-B it would be a 1930-31 straight windshield Briggs body. The 1931 s/w dlx is a 160-C and there were about 4600 made between Murray and Briggs

In 1931, FORD combined the 160-C (Deluxe Fordor Sedan S/W) and the 170-B (Deluxe Fordor Sedan...Briggs) production figures.

USA...3231
Foreign...1358
Canadian...378
TOTAL...4967

Not sure about a 170-C Murray Body...Anyone??

Steve,
According to "The Ford Model "A" As Henry Built It" page 164 shows 740 Deluxe Sedans (170B) Blindbacks where built in 1931.

Hmmmmmm...I see that Cape Codder!!!

But looking at FORD's Assembly Record Types for 1931, I don't see it.

That may be a mistake...Hmmmmmm

NO...That is not a mistake!

There were 3231 "domestic" De Luxe Sedans (160-C and 170-B) produced in 1931 according to the 1931 FORD Assembly Record Types. And according to Cape Codder and the reference in "The Ford Model A As Henry Built It", of that total, 740 were 170-B's and the others were 2491 160-C's (which is not referenced that I could see).

A slant window blind back is a 1931 160C there is no known record of production numbers. The Deluxe Fordor ( blind back ) is the rarest of the 1931 fordors

Two years ago I purchased a '31 Briggs Body Fordor 170-B Dlx 2-window. It had been in dry heated storage for 40 years, and was "totally" rust free all original. The floor pans still had the original paint top and bottom. I mean absolutely "NO RUST" anywhere. The frame still had all the original paint on it. I have done a frame off restoration. I have no idea what I should insure it for. Any sugestions?

I am Insured by Hagerty, they let you quote your own Value. I had to e-mail them only one Photo, for them to see to determine their Value. I though because I built My own Body, ah $6,000 then I made up my mind $8,000, they told me the Minimun they Thought by looking at the Photo, $10,000. So for $210 a year and everything else New York State Requires, I have $10,000

Too late now, but this sounds like it was a very nice original car that should not have been restored? Good original survivors are getting so rare and get much attention at the meets. They are so valuable for original details. Once the original upholstery and paint has been changed it looses value as a good resource, and as a nice original car.

For insurance value I'd say what it would cost to replace it with the same condition car. At least $12,000.

There was nothing else to do, but to restore...The paint was shot and mice had eaten the upholstery, and the engine had froze up.

The best known estimate is 2200-2700 made of the 160C! the second most rare passenger car...next to the Town Car
