The (C clamp type)Hinge removal tool that Bob Drake produces and is sold by most of the Venders discussed here works well as long as you use lubricant on the threads Mac's has it for $24.25 and is part # V46335Pull

Regards,

Brian

Hey Choice.......

I tried all kinds of things to get pins out, But Brian is right. Spend the $25 bucks and save yourself a lot of frustration. Use some penetrating oil while your waiting for c clamp to arrive. When tightening it down over the pin just go slow. When it pops......you'll know it ! It takes awhile but it works.

Good luck

If you pins are badly rusted in place like mine were, all you'll do with this tool is bend the little pins they give to push the door pins out. In my case it was a waste of $25.00 . I ended up cutting the tops off and slowly driving them down and out.

Torchem Red Hot, lettem cool apply the penetrating oil and use the tool when it arrives, the heat turns the rust to powder....Damage to adjoining surfaces is likely if you try hammering them out without backup( a common mistake ) the tool works because all the pressure is focused on the pin, while hammering distrubutes the force everywhere

I found the easiest way to get them out without hurting the body/door or the hinge is to remove the door with the whole hinge intact. Unscrew the body bolts to remove the door. With a friend to help hold the door, turn the door upside down over a large vise with the jaws apart enough to allow the mushroom head to pass through. Use a large hammer and a drift and drive the pin down and out. It worked well for me on my 36 and the 46. It certainly beats buggering up the hinge or the door or body. Pounding on the hinge while it is attached to the car is a sure way to cause sheetmetal problems that you don't want. The pin removers that are advertised are not strong enough to remove a really stuck pin and will just destroy themselves in the process. Also, heat may help if applied carefully. Good luck.
