The vendor I bought my California restored plates from guaranteed them to be good for a period of time….I think 60 days. If the DMV did not approve them, he would find another pair for you at no additional cost. From all the comments, it is pretty clear that states vary widely with what they will accept.

I bought my 1928 NC restored plate at a Goodguys Car show 4 years ago. Paid a hefty $125.

Painting the raised surfaces is easily done by using a small foam roller.

Hello again, I think the repaint issue is that the plates are repainted a non original color as issued by the state . I have seen at some shows plates painted to match the car , Illegal in Pennsylvania,I believe this is what the repaint issue is. If plates are correctly restored to original color would not think it would be a issue as they would identical to original .

In North Carolina you can run any States year of manufacture plate as long as you keep the registered plate in the car. I was actually running 1929 Michigan plate up until a few days ago.
