1954 Mercury station wagon rearend
City:
pittsfield
State:
MA
Looking for a 1954 Mercury rearend from a station wagon with an auto transmission to put in my 54 sedan. This is a heavy duty rear end and was also used in 55/56 passenger cars which were wider and don't fit the 54. Should be 3:54 or 3:30 ratio. Any ideas?

Just curious. I do have a '55 Merc rear that has been outside for years but the centersection has been covered. Incidently, a friend of mine had a '56 Crown Vic with stick and O.D. and it had the Merc style rear in it with 4.something gears. As near as I could figure from the numbers on it, it came from a '54 Ford wagon which also used the Merc style rear but with the smaller wheel bolt pattern. Pittsfield is a ways from me, I live about 10 miles south of Cobleskill, NY, but you're welcome to come over and measure up the '55 Merc rear. If you can make it work, and if the gears are still look good: $50 and its yours! Sorry for the late response; haven't been on here for awhile. |
