Hi, Me and my dad just joined the forum. We have a 61 and 62 Galaxie. Here is a picture of the 62. It’s a Galaxie 500 XL bucket seat console floor shift. 390 automatic.

Re: 62 Galaxie
You may find that the late style vacuum modulated cruise-o-matic can be a bit quirky but I got the one in my old 64 T-bird to work extremely well as long at it was warmed up. I kind of wish I'd kept that car but it had too many electric gadgets that needed repairs more often than I cared for. If I ever find an old Starliner, 63 1/2 Galaxie fastback, or a 63/64 Marauder I may end up with another FE Ford car. I love the 390, 406, and 410 engines.

I was just mentioning to someone else how pleased I am that my '65 T-Bird has crank windows and non-power seats, and for the reason you stated. I don't know if that puts my car in the minority, but it seems like most of the surviving cars I see from that generation have those power options. My car doesn't have the vacuum powered door locks, either. Pretty bare bones by Thunderbird standards, I guess. |

Re: 62 Galaxie
The 61 is actually a Fairlane but in 61 a fairlane was still a full size car like a Galaxie. Here’s a couple pictures of it. Absolute survivor car from Canada

Re: 62 Galaxie
The only difference between the Fairlane and Galaxie in 1960/61 was the trim level. My Pop bought one of the smaller Mercury Meteors in 1962 and it was just an up trimmed version of the Fairlane in that year and style. The Meteor didn't last long though in the USA. Canada had Meteors long before we ever did.

Re: 62 Galaxie
If you think a 64 Bird with power windows and seats is a problem, you should own a rag top.

Re: 62 Galaxie
My problem was keeping the AC working. It has a vacuum operated on off electrical switch. Either the switch would go bad or the vacuum motor. The dash has to come apart to fix it. That dash is a pita to work on.

Re: 62 Galaxie
I bought a 64 bird with burned wiring harness and the vacuum harness was dried pasta. Replaced it all, that car had the coldest AC of anything I've been in. On a hot humid night it would put dew on the outside of the back window. Sorry off topic.
