Ahooga Horn

Guys
I have a 6 Volt Ahooga horn that works real well.
It has no "bell" on the front.
Someone mentioned that it may be a truck horn
from some unknown year Ford?
I would like to use it on my 32 Tudor, but wonder
about acquiring the correct bell for it. I would also
convert it to 12 volts.
Are the bells available from some vendors?

And you're talking a "double rework" of a horn to make it suitable for your purpose?

Hutchins has resumed making their 1950s era Model A Horn repops. Available in both original 6v and 12v.

I think I paid $3 at a flea market for mine.

Joe, I don't know much about these horns, but I think this one is
an original horn.
Just thought I'd use what I have, rather than buy a new repro.

If an original Model A type horn it could be a Sparton, Ames, E.A, Stewart Warner or G.I.M. brand horn. Parts may be interchangeable, but also may not be.

Currently horn bells are reproduced for Sparton and Ames brand. If you are not sure of your horn manufacture, you could contact a supplier who has the bells and ask them for diameter and bolt circle. You may be able to create a close match.



Think $65 to $75 for the bell plus shipping.

My '31 DD came with what I assumed is an original horn. It was strapped to the rad support under the hood and, rather than the flared bell like Joe K posted, the cone is a straight taper and a bit longer. My horn is a Klaxon.

Some GM cars of the 20's used a Klaxon horn like you describe.

They also have 12 to 6 volt reducers but from what I read and bought the one from speedway motors is the best choice. Part # 910-64103 electric reducer for motors. It's gold and bolts on the frame or where you want to put it. Tested great on mine.

If your horn is an original 32 Ahooga it will look like pictures 1 & 2. Notice the motor case is not cylindrical like the model A, and the offset bracket that mounts to the fender not the headlight bar. For later 32 see picture #3 of a 32 "beeper" horn.

Exactly. I am running their Sparton horn and it works/looks absolutely great. Perfect. Boxed up my original which kinda worked, wasn't too bad, and it is parked on the parts shelf.
