Default Silicone needed when installing new intake/manifold gaskets?

Picked up a new gasket kit from snyders (http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/gasket-set-2006).

Wondering whether the exhaust/intake manifold gasket needs silicone or is it ready to go just the way it is?

Forgot to ask also about the radiator/water inlet gasket.

I would not use that green gasket that's in that set, you will be replacing it in a short while, get the steel gasket or better still the copper gaskets.

You can't go wrong with the copper gaskets. Do it right the first time. Wayne

OLD Race Car Builders say, "What the hell did we do in the "OLD DAYS", without MODERN sealers"?

I sprayed my copper ones with coppercoat - figured it cant hurt. Been spraying all gaskets with that stuff and seems to work well.

Just ask yourself, "If I'm using a gasket to seal the connection do I really need a sealer to seal the gasket?"

Confirming Brian T's comment.
I have seen the the green unclad manifold gaskets fail after a short amount of time.

I am also skeptical about how well any silicone would hold up with the extreme temperatures at the exhaust port.

I have had good luck with both the steel clad and copper clad gaskets. The copper clad are my preference.

Hope this helps

Do not use silicon anywhere near the fuel system. Fuel will dissolve/soften silicon and cause you some heartache.

I heartily agree with the comments about the green manifold gaskets, also pass on the one piece dimpled steel gasket, they don't fit right. Pay a little more and get the copper clad copy of the original. Ask me how I know!

Go easy when tightening the rad inlet. Many have snapped the ears right off. I learned here long ago many prefer a VERY light skin coat of "cone" instead of the gasket.
