I pick up an Borge-Warner OD today for my car. I am excited to put it in my car. I saw it on the MAFCA site. Had to make a 500 mile trip to get it but it was FREE. I know it is old school but I do not have the money for a new OD. I sure this will improve my driving on the Highway. Gary

I have a couple of them and also love them. They are old school. Do some research on
here and on the internet. There are some do's and don'ts with these.
Down load your self a manual. The big don't is backing up without killing the power and
disengaging it.
Have fun, research and ask questions.

Without doing a Google search, can someone explain how the BW OD works? My grandpa had an OD on a 60s or 70s Ford Pickup, I recall a handle on the dash with a cable, and constant being told not to touch it.

The Borg/Warner T5 is a great transmission as I have one in my Model A. Check the code on the transmission to see if it is a non-world class (early manufacture) or the later and improved World Class transmission as they use different fluids. I've read that the best way to determine the model is to open the transmission before installation (some codes are apparently altered) and see if it contains the proper parts for a World Class model. A good website regarding that issue is: http://www.pro-forceperformance.com/...tification.htm. There is alot of info about T5's on the internet so a simple search of T5's will lead to a ton of information about of Borg/Warner T5 transmissions. I think that due diligence in researching the T5 could help to avoid future problems. Good luck! Gary D.

For normal (automatic) operation of the OD, the dash knob is left "in", pulling it out locks the OD out of operation.

I've had two that were converted for the A's.One was electric,the other had been converted to a cable shift.I really didn't like the cable shift one.They did work nice,but I felt they were a little too high for me.I don't know what people are doing to grenade them when trying to back up with the OD still engaged.When I would forget and try to back up with the OD still in,I'd feel almost a gentle bump,and the car wouldn't want to move.It would let me know in a second that I forgot to shift it out.I guess if I hit the throttle and snapped the clutch out I would have destroyed something,but driving normally always told me when I was wrong.

Borg-Warner O/D is most likely from the 50/60's. See Tom Endy's article.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think my wife’s Austin Healy had a Laycock electric overdrive. She bought it in the early 60’s so I may not remember very well. I think some other British cars had those as well.
