Does the new bevel you ground match the original spring bevel on the top leaf? Any chance someone welded a reinforcing plate inside the front crossmember? Are the U bolts the correct ones? Most repro U bolts I've seen are too long and need to be cut and new holes drilled for the cotter pins. |

Re: Lets talk front spring
I agree with Tom about the U bolt's being too long. Most likely the rear.

Re: Lets talk front spring
Bought new front spring from Bert's, their suggestion to getting castallation nuts up far enough to get cotter pins in was to grind nuts down till cotter pins go in..sound mickey mouse to me...then I ordered new spring clips, they came today and are the cheapest sheet metal repro's I've evere seen...not thrilled with Bert's...

I use originals. I prefer the look and the stoutness. On a spring that is too fat, I have welded up the clamp pin hole, added some length, angled off the ends and drilled it so it fits. |

Nothing wrong with Bert's...Original parts would of fit perfect...the whole assembly including the nuts...all you had to do is ask for them...repro parts are as you say..."mickey mouse"....JUNK! Pluck |
