Question drive axle key

axle key has taper on one end whats correct fitment ???

Taper goes inboard on the bottom.

Bill is absolutely correct....TAPER INBOARD, FACING DOWN in keyway. The picture BELOW shows inboard, tapered end of keyway. It's obvious how tapered key must fit this diminishing taper in keyway.

NOTE as an aside, the crack forming in axle right where the inboard end of slot terminates. This crack is the result of NOT tightening that giant drum retaining nut on axle end to proper torque, in other words....nut TOO LOOSE! Coop





Here's one that broke on Capt. Kirk's '35 Cabriolet. He said that the big nut took hardly any effort to remove. They've gotta be TIGHT-TIGHT!
