Sears sells a Diehard model that does both 6 and 12 volt. Sells for $29 but goes on sale from time to time for $19. I have several and they work well, also carries a three year warranty.

I've heard of these battery maintainers starting fires.

My brother owns one from Wally World that does both 6v/12v. They are in the marine battery dept.

TSC also has them, can't think of the name of them. They're about $20, seem to work fine and handle both 6 and 12v. I don't keep them hooked up though, I just use them in the fall and again in the spring and I keep them off by themselves when in use. Well, I guess I shouldn't have said that, I lied to you. I do keep one on JoAnn' car all winter. These new cars won't go very long without being charged/driven, but, I still keep the charger off by itself.

Had a Battery Tender hooked up for quite awhile - until I noticed one day the sure signs of being overcharged - extra acid/gunk ooozed over the top of my battery.

Now, I just plug it in once a month until the led indicator turns from red to green, showing that the battery is charged. At that point, I disconnect and unplug it.

The one Sears and Walmart sells is made by Schumaker. I have a couple. They seem to work very well.

I have one of these and in my view it is an excellent battery charger. In addition to being switchable between a 6 and 12 volt output, it has a feature that senses when it is connected to a battery. There is no voltage at the output until a battery is detected. Should a clip lead fall off while the car is unattended the charger shuts off. There is also a regulator circuit incorporated so that when the battery reaches full charge the charger shuts off and an indicator light signals full charge.

This intelligent one is now on sale on Amazon for $23.95. It is sold by DPI the Tennessee manufacturer that builds the golf cart battery chargers.

I use a conventional charger with a home security lamp timer. I have it come on for an hour each day and it gets the job done. That way I don't worry about something going wrong because it's only powered up while I'm awake

Have used Deltran Power Tender battery chargers for years. 1.25 amp maintaining chargers. leave them plugged in all winter.

Never had a single problem. Work just as described, work great.

MY "OAKIE" INTERMITTANT SYSTEM:-- I screwed in a plug in socket for my garage light, plugged in a multi-strip into it, & plugged the charger into it, SO, the charger only runs when the light is on. I also plug workbench electrial stuff into the multi-strip, in case I leave a soldering iron or something on, accidentally. Bill W.

I think if the charger is not powered ;the battery feeds back to the
charger and keeps the charge indicator lights on? does so on my charger.
