Default 49-53 Water Outlet/Thermostat Gasket

Gasket that comes with Speedway's nice polished aluminum water outlet [http://www.speedwaymotors.com/1949-5...eck,7313.html], not so good; better choice is one from O'Reilly's that has a peel-off sticky back - holds the thermostat in place while installing; O'Reilly P/N 35067 @ $1.99.

A lot of the big-box places sell 350 Chev gaskets as for the flathead. Yeah, they "fit", but hang out all around. That O'Reilly gasket doesn't look right either.

After years of making my own. I just gave up and bought a couple at the local "Auto Value" store. They were the kind with the "sticky stuff" on them that makes installation a lot easier, and they were the regular shape, not like those blue oddballs.

Another vote for stickies. Nothing more infuriating than having your t-stat drop down at the last second because you're trying to finagle everything together holding the gasket on with the bolt threads.

Ross,

I marked the O'Reilly gasket with the old one, and trimmed away the excess; nothing like success - it worked fine.
