Thank you (Marty?) for taking the time and paying the price to bring your Dad's book back into publication. It's a great resource of information to have even if you never own or build a kool little 60hp flathead engine. It was great to be able to call or email questions directly to Rich when he was available. Having a copy of this book to read and refer back to at times for information is maybe close to being the next best thing. Your Dad was surprised to hear me telling him about some of the 60hp parts I found, when he thought those sources had completely dried up years earlier.
If I didn't already have a personily autographed copy of your Dad's book, I would and still may get another copy just to have his eulogy written by you and your brother.

There is always that 1 guy LOL

Midget Racers, Hydroplane Racers and Small Cigar Box Boat builders will strongly disagree.

To make 140hp and spin 7600rpm while tipping the scale at a whopping 200lbs.... Id say it fit a nitch well

Sounds like the voice of someone who has never owned or raced one.

I owned 3 just to be clear. They may work in a 1000# car with a cam and speed equipment, but in a stock sedan or pickup they are the biggest slug. My 4 cylinder B can whip any of the ones I had.

The invention was originally "sound" in that it was a small, economical engine design intended for a "small, lightweight" vehicle for the European market.
The idea to use it in a full size and weight car in the USA was a flawed decision, and not the brightest idea in Fords lightbulb collection.
Gotta love the little 60hp Flathead V-8 along with its bigger FH brothers!!! Built right, it will get you anywhere you need or want to go.

a v860 is 136ci
What is a Model A or B???? DOUBLE the c.i.?
I would hope that a engine twice its size had more power from the get go

That V8-60 piston has LESS than 1/2 the AREA of the Model A piston........5.3 sq. in. vs 11.787 sq. in. It's no wonder the little "60" has so little "grunt"! DD

Funny thing is some owners must have felt this motor that came with my car was good enough to keep for 77 years. I can't believe it is still there and original. Maybe I won't win any races but it gets the car down the road anyway.
