Re: Transmission build, what will work
Getting Van Pelt's book is great advice but it does not cover compatibility with 40's Zephyr gears. I got this information from and old pamphlet titled Gear and Torque by Jerry Hagens.
Prior to 1940 Lincoln Zephyr and Continental used the Ford gear set. In 1940 and 1941 both LZ and Continental used the so-called 26 tooth gears with the prefix 06H. From 42-48 they used a 25 tooth gear set with prefix 26H. Both sets used the 06H-7102 24 tooth second gear. So if you have a 39 to 48 gear set in your 37 trans, you can use the 26H cluster and main drive and 06H second gear with a "39"gear set and appropriate washers and synchros and 81A shift housing with a 9!A- fork (not all 3 inch forks are 91A forks). If you have a 37 gear set in your 48- case, only the first/reverse slider and reverse idler are compatible. |

That is the Lincoln 25 tooth cluster and gear set. Don't know what you are putting that in but I wouldn't use that in a stock 37. Sell it for big bucks and buy a Ford gear set.
