Question Mercury wishbones

Does anybody happen to know the dimension for 1939 or 1940 Mercury wishbones from the center of the axel to the center of the ball? I have a set of bones that this measurement is 44 1/2 " & I am trying to figure what they are from. They are identical to 37-41 Ford bones other than the legnth. They are not "stepped" as are the 42 -48 Ford & Mercury wishbones. Thank you. Bill

1941 Fords have a one-year-only wishbone that is identical in width between the perch holes as a '37-'40, but is 4-5" longer than the '37-'40 if ya stand the two up against the wall. The '41 ALSO is not "stepped" like the '42-'48s. DD

Wow! Thanks V8 for that info.
I always thought 1937-41 Ford wish bones were EXACTLY the same length.
Does that mean the 41 torque tube is also a different length than the 40?

Jim.......I know you've run across this old Street Rodder article seen in my link below. It still serves as having some handy reference info to save. The article notes that '35-'40 TUBES are 70" in length, and that '41-'48s are 71-3/4" long. It also states that a '41 rear is unique in that the distance between spring hangers is one-year-only. 1941 Fords had a completely new frame design. Save this link!

Have you pulled your torque tube yet? DD

The 1938 thru 1941 Chassis Parts book has 78-3405 radius rod for all of the cars except the 99A Mercury and the 1941 cars in that time frame. Even the Commercials had it. The 1940 Mercury used an extended bracket and I think that continued into 1941 and maybe further. The 41 Ford & Mercury cars had longer wheelbase that the earlier models. The Ford cars were 114" and the Mercury cars were 117" for 1941 so they used the 11A-3405 radius rod.

Thanks for the responces. I always thought that 36 thru 41 ford wishbones were all the same legnth also. I guess that this set that I'm askn about are either 41 Ford or Mercury. V8coopman, Thanks for the link to that article. I printed it out & also saved it. Bill

V8: Thanks for that article. Super helpful. I haven't yet pulled my torque tube, but I did buy a torque tube seal from Bruces Rod Shop in TX. It is a very well made high quality piece.
