Engine Serial Numbers
I guess that I have extra time on my hands, because I was looking at the engine number on my 31 Tudor an the extra blocks that I have tucked away. I checked the listing on Ford Garage, but cannot seem to figure it out. How many engines did they make in a month, Did they use the complete 10000 unit allotment before switching the alpha codes?
One engine number is CAD1744. Am I correct in thinking that it was made mid Sept. 1931? CAS9846 looks like late May 1931? CA129333 ????? A 32 Model B engine with bell housing number CBG2283. can someone more knowledgeable than me please help me out. Thanks, Jim. |

Re: Engine Serial Numbers
This is where I looked. Most of the alpha codes Have 10000 available numbers. If you devide the months of production into the number, it looks like they might have made 3000 engines per month if they used thm all. Did they? Then some alpha codes look like they only made a few hundred. There must be more to it than this?

CAD series was the last & there were 6877 engines, from June 2nd& finished in Feb. '32. I have recently seen a CAD 4314 which would be very late but difficult to know when. Cars were slow selling during 1931 & without an original registration receipt [ all cars here used to have one that stayed with the car until Big Brother arrived] hard to know. All the other Canadian series were in batches of 10K. CAS 9846 would be end of May '31. The CA engines went from Feb '28 to end of Aug. '29. which was CA 150,000. With these engines you are approx. guessing when they were stamped. During peak production during '29 it appears it was about 3 months until they went into a chassis. I do not know much about the '32 B engines, but Ford Garage has the best info. Cheers. |
