1934-35 front hub/drum source?
I am told the cast front hub-with-drum with ribs on the edge is from 1934-1935.
If this is true, are these available anywhere? If not, do 1940 hubs bolt onto original spindles without any modifications or special bearings? Bearings seem hard enough to get out here as it is. All the places i looked online seem to assume people are fitting much later model parts instead of original. |

35 have the ribs. 32-34 don't, and have narrower shoes. 40 hubs will not directly bolt onto 35 spindles

Re: 1934-35 front hub/drum source?
a lot depends on what you are trying to do. nobody is remaking the 32-5 drums, so you have to hunt down good originals to stay in that game. if you are running ford wire wheels they need support, note the bumps just inboard of each wheel stud. later drums use a support ring to run wire wheels available from the vendors. and as brian pointed out the later drums are wider also. are you still mechanical brakes?

Apparrently there is a place in Whanganui who are able to cast them up . One of my friends got drums for his Austin cast there . I can explore further and get more details if you want -Karl

This sounds like a good option. Do you know if they have any patterns/mold for 35 hubs? (I think 34 would work in a pinch)

Re: 1934-35 front hub/drum source?
As has been said, the '35s are a half inch wider than '34s. The spacing MAY just very well work with the '34 shoes, but Flathead Ted would likely know for sure. DD

Wow that's a lot of axles in that picture.

Re: 1934-35 front hub/drum source?
The later hubs and drum assembly will fit on the spindles; but the offset of the earlier backing plates is different, making them incompatible.

Re: 1934-35 front hub/drum source?
A 35 drum will fit on a 34 ok you would only be using 3/4 of the drum for the shoe contact .Not sure about the opposite 34 onto 35 I would say the drum would contact the shoe edge .
