'40 inside handle removal
I can't figure out how to remove the inside door handle and window crank on the driver's door. Are they held on with pins or clips? If it's pins, how do you push in far enough to get to the pin? Maybe that's why Macs sells the special tool?
The window garnish has to come out also. I removed all the screws but the garnish is really tight in there. Any hints? Am I correct that the vent window comes out with the garnish? Thanks, Hunt |

Re: '40 inside handle removal
Push in the top with screw driver and use a ice pick tap the pick a little then push
the bottom in with screw driver and push the pin out. Then of course the pin goes into the big sink hole in the floor lost for ever (mine did) get the top of the garnish to pop out then the tricky part is to move the vent back & forth to clear the window runner while lifting up the whole thing ain't easy almost as it grew in there. I just did that to find a rattle the lost pin I just snipped a piece of a coat hanger. sam |

Re: '40 inside handle removal
Sam, does the pin line up with the length of the handle? Or do you have to search for it all around the shaft? Thanks for the tip.

Re: '40 inside handle removal
There were two sets of holes 90degrees apart in the handles on my 1940 panel. I do not remember orientation. The pin was fairly obvious. Hold a flashlight in your third hand.

Re: '40 inside handle removal
I use the old fashioned spring loaded clothes pin to push back the escutcheon. I remove the spring and use the two tapered wood pieces. The wood won't scratch the chrome and allows the spring in the bezel to compress. The pin should come out fairly easy with a pin punch.

Re: '40 inside handle removal
I use a 1/4" piece of plywood with a slot that will compress the escutcheon and fit over the handle part that has the pin. Push the pin out and it falls into the slot of the plywood.
