Still sober
Hello all; It's sixteen years as of today, one day at a time. And it's NOT about me. I just need to inform and remind people, help and hope are a phone call away from your local directory or the internet. I've taken an annual liberty to post my sobriety date since Shelly had the Barn, except for last year because I got away from the internet, on the most part, for about a year. For anyone that needs help, you only have to admit it and reach out. After that it just keeps getting better. I wish you all a productive and uneventful day, Craig.

Re: Still sober
Me too, 31 years ago I took my last drink, actually quite a few. I thought I lost everything. 10 years stuck in a bottle of Jim Beam. With the help of the Lord and a good woman, I'm able to help others.
Take care. Ol Ron |

Re: Still sober
What a great message!! It is difficult for most people to FIRST admit they have a problem and SECOND realize THEY are the problem. Another friend has been sober 8 years and it required 3 rehab treatment centers to convince him.
I wish you continued success and congratulate you. Oh, one more thing----you forgot to mention you have the best, most rewarding and satisfying job in America!! Best Regards, JWL |

Re: Still sober
Thanks for the message Craig. Fortunately, I've never had a problem with alcohol, but have friends who have, and know what they have gone through. Now, smoking was another story for me, and I managed to kick that habit around 1980 after smoking for about 30 years. Hopefully, overcoming these bad habits/addictions will give us a little extra time with family, friends, and old Fords.

Gave up booze and cigarettes 30 years ago thanks to a lovely wife and family and Lord, now if I could do the same with some food to get the waist line in shape. Congrats to Craig.

Re: Still sober
Good for you Craig! I quit drinking in 1996 as I was tired of feeling like hell in the morning and people questioning my judgment. I still feel like hell in the morning
and people still question my judgment...I think it's just middle age. I have a nice driver 1948 Ford business coupe in the garage. If I was still drinking I would've spent just as much and not had the car. |

Good on you Craig. I have one brother who is at 8 years and another who is just at 3 months . Fortunately I missed the gene but have firsthand experience of just how hard it can be, which gives me great respect for those who do it -Karl

My Dear Brother in Christ - Again I salute you, and understand exactly from where you come! After directing the Drug Court (which includes an alcohol component) for the past 16 years, I know that yours is an incredible accomplishment - and now you continue to bring happiness to so many with your ministry with to-die-for dogs! Congratulations!

Congratulations! I hope your words are encouragement to others to seek help. The first step is knowing you have a problem. I saw enough of it at an early age to never touch the stuff.

Congrats Craig, I do work with a fellow that has been sober 3 years now. We were just talking about this a few days ago. It's always in the back of his mind and a daily work, one day at a time, at least it is for him. Congrats again.

Re: Still sober
Congratulations!
I do something similar with quitting smoking, it helps remind me how far I've come. I have a little computer program that constantly tallies up how I'm doing. Seventeen years, four months, three days, 3 hours, 49 minutes and 29 seconds. 316657 cigarettes not smoked, saving $139,328.58. Life saved: 3 years, 12 hours, 5 minutes. Kirk

Here is a pic of me and my friend Lisa. She got presented for 8 years by the police officer who arrested her many times. Just a reminder that not just cars but people can be restored too.

I'm a new guy at the Ford Barn, went back to page 101 and have been reading old posts every day. Just wanted to say I'll be 39 years sober come June if I continue one day at a time.

Re: Still sober
Reminds me of my dad, As a returning WWII soldier he tried to drink away Combat and life as a POW in Germany. It didn't work! He did recognize it and went to AA and as he always said met some of the finest people he had ever known. We were lucky he didn't let it take his family down the tubes. He really was a great father! To all that have the courage to admit and accept help, God Bless you!
