Default 33 Cowl Vent

Back to the vent again. Rubber was too thin so stuck some universal thin foam strip first then the rubber. Weighted down with a bit of rail line. The flap now lines up with the cowl. Maybe leave it a few days and see what happens.

Holy Schnikes that's a load of weight on your vent. I believe it will help. But, my goodness, you have some real stones going with that technique!

Maybe a suggestion if you don't mind, and please feel free to ignore... Keep updating your original post on the topic because it makes it easier in the future to track issues and maybe more importantly their solutions. It also helps the helpers stay on track.

On the topic at hand. I have been following and feeling your 'pain' but haven't had much to add. I did the same job on my 35 about three years ago and was puzzled about which side was up and if sealer was appropriate and fighting with level fitment. It sure looked like it was sealed, but I my previous owner hand a decades old carb leak and I sorta think it helped the gasket dissolve and turn into goo. It was a real bugger to get the old gasket remnants extracted and the drain hole cleaned.

Oh, and BEAUTIFUL CAR!
