I just got the first one this morning.I can't say it has anything to do with here though.I get lots of antique-street rod related stuff that I have no idea where it came from.Could be from websites I have visited, vendors I have used or gotten quotes from, since I quit ebay a lot of it stopped. They are supposedly secure and respect your privacy, but I have no doubt people know how to harvest addresses from them.

I started getting them but I also ordered some 63 vette parts from them. My best advice is to get a GMail account. They have the best spam filter by far. I don't get 2 or 3 spams a month after their filter gets thru. You can also report any email as a spam and they won't make it thru the filter either.

They sniped (aka stole) a bunch of emails of the old site just before it closed. There is an opt out link at the bottom of the page (and it works - I tried it)

I've gotten a couple or three, I think since the new site started. I didn't make the connection, but it sure does seems odd that so many have started getting them since signing up.

Fellas... We don't send commercial emails and we don't sell your data to anyone. On top of that, it's next to impossible for your email addresses to be farmed from this site.

To ease your minds, you can read our terms of service here and our privacy policy here.

Again, we would NEVER EVER EVER sell your information. Period.

With the old site, spammers could easily farm your email address... With the new format, it's not possible without a ton of work...

Makes sense that the old site could have been harvested as I started getting them about 2 weeks before the new site started. Guesse I should have clarified then when part in my first post. Rod

Guys, there are programs that these spammers use called SPIDERS.. they do exactly what they are suppose to do....send out feelers to get email addresses. This has nothing to do with selling and as RYAN says he does not sell and spiders find out these address.

It isn't a totally bad thing, as I took a look thru it last night, there is a lot of parts sources listed and events taking place listed that I didn't know existed and it is not 100% all hot rod despite the name of the site.Sometimes your best source of restoration parts come from modified cars that are not using OEM,better than it being scrap fodder for the Chinese.

Now that you mention it, that might be when they started, but just went to the bottom of email and un registered -- no problem. Ha, of course, got one more telling me I was finished with them. Easy fix.

I wonder if it had anything to do with the spams that some of us got from London asking for money. That was connected with a virus that stole email addresses too. There is too much of this stuff out there, that's for sure.
My son says to put an "X" in all the email addresses in your Address Book and they won't be picked up by a virus, worm, spider, whatever they are called. Apparently the "X" is not a valid character in an email address. Then when he sends an email he deletes the "X" in that address before sending. Any of you computer gurus know if this sounds like good advice?

I usually take the time to unsubscribe, and as a result my spam is next to zero.I still get spam in the spam folder, but that can just be clicked away.I can honestly say that once I have unsubscribed I never hear from them again.I used to just delete the spam folder, but I found out that a lot of replies to me from businesses go into the spam folder.

An 'X' is a valid character in email addresses. All alphanumeric characters (ABC123) and a few non-alphanumerics (_-.) are valid for use in email and WWW addresses.

Adding the 'X' changes the email address so that the virus/spambot will send any mail to the incorrect address. As an example; [email protected] is different than [email protected], which is different than [email protected], and so on.

Again, there is no connection between your getting spam from Hot Rod Hotline, or somewhere else, and signing up for the 'new' Ford Barn. It is simply coincidence.

However, it would have been easy for your email address to have been lifted/culled/scanned/recorded/etc if you'd ever posted to the 'old' Ford Barn. This is due to the way that emails were freely published on each reply you made on the 'old' Barn.
