Default What is this from

This is a water pump housing from a 31 coupe. It has an oiler instead of a zerk fitting on the snout and bushings, but no packing or bearings. The impeller was pinned to the shaft but had a spring and some fiber washers under it that I think sealed the bushing at the back. Is it some kind of older leakless pump? I can find nothing like it anywhere. It worked on the engine for years but had started leaking.

It is an early version of a leakless pump. There were probably dozens of different makers of them back then, all trying to invent the better mousetrap. You didn't include the important parts in your picture to see just what kind of seal it had.On some of them if you can get them apart without damage they can be cleaned up and put back to work.If you can clean the fiber/ceramic washers, fix or replace the spring put it all back together again and try it.If the fiber washer has a groove worn into it where it rides on the pump you can flip it over to put a virgin surface against the bushing. Some used the stock type bushing that can be replaced if the shoulder is worn too thin.

Thanks, that's all I could figure. As you can guess, the important parts didn't fair so well. The impeller was corroded to pieces so the only thing I could save was the housing.
