Copra - Chicle color combo
I'm trying to decide on a color for a March 1930 coupe. I believe that copra body and chicle upper was available (not chicle body and copra upper). I'm trying to find a picture of a car with copra - chicle, but have had no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Mitch |

Re: Copra - Chicle color combo
Mitch, see if this helps. I included both color combos.
If someone can post whose cars these are, I would appreciate it. (Tim Johnstone?? on the later?) . |

Re: Copra - Chicle color combo
Mitch,
I would be very careful in using Copra Drab. PPG Concept and Dupont ChromaPriemer Copra Drab are different colors - way different. Concept is a gray and Dupont is a brown. I am pretty sure that Dupont has the correct color. I bought some Concept Copra Drab to paint the trim on my 28 special coupe and I couldn't tell it from the Arabian Sand Dark (a medium to dark gray) which the main color was. I had to repaint the windshield frame with Dupont paint. The thing to remember, is to do a test spray to make sure it is what you expect. Rusty Nelson |

Re: Copra - Chicle color combo
I suggest that you look at the chips in the paint book so you know what you should be getting into. Be sure to use natural light and surround the chips with a neutral color. The white makes them look dark.
My brothers coupe was done in chicle and copra and at the time they were being done with greens. When you look at the original colors they are a tan type color. At some point I was given the original tints use in the lombard blue. That gives you a good base when you ask about the colors. You know if there was no green and they give the formula with green tints you might suspect it is not correct. Getting colors right can be expensive and tough depending on the abilities of your local supplier. I can only wish you luck. |

For what it's worth, black/black with vermilion pinstripe sure looks nice.

Brubaker, that's the other color I'm also considering. The PPG number for chicle - copra that I have are 91 - 440 and I'm pretty sure these are grayish and not brownish like it should be. In PPG Starthane 2368 - 33006, but again I don't think these are right either. |

Re: Copra - Chicle color combo
Well, I hope no one takes offense but to me, having Copra as the main body color is not appealing to my likes. Again, others could/would disagree however IMHO, no car owner should ever paint a car until they have made a spray-out on a test panel and looked at it for about a month.
I guess I have seen too many customers that have thought they liked one color combination but when the stripe color changed, --or the belt moulding & main body colors were reversed, the vehicle took on a whole new look. And yes, ....PPG can mix the correct shade however you need to verify with a spray out. . |

Re: Copra - Chicle color combo
Brent, me neither, I prefer the chicle main body color. I just couldn't get myself to tolerate the looks of copra body color. My grandaughter wants pink with orange flames, which ain't happening either.
mot, thanks for the picture, that sure is a nice town sedan, hard not to appreciate an original. |

Re: Copra - Chicle color combo
I had a similar challenge with matching chicle on my 30 coupe. The PPG formula matched the Copra perfectly. The chicle did not match the vehicle or the chip in the MAFCA paint guide.(looked more like grey/brown -PPG 91) Fortunately I started with only several ounces for touch up.
My solution was to take the chicle colored visor which was off the car and have it analyzed at the PPG distributor with his hand held analyzer- a perfect match for the chicle drab on my car. Hope this helps,

Re: Copra - Chicle color combo
Here is my 31 Tudor I used PPG but I had the paint supply co remix the colors the first time I sprayed a test panel it just didn't look very rich the colors just didn't seem right so I don't know if this is a good true example but I would not change it for myself I love the colors.
