Front floormat & tranny cover out> Speedo cable disconnect> Frame up on four jack stands> Rear wheels off> Rear brakes, including parking cable off at torque tube> Rear shocks free> Clamshell off> Banjo up on floor jack> Spring mount disconnect> Roll driveline assembly out with floor jack 6" only> Remove U joint. Reverse the procedure and bleed the brakes.

First and foremost, What symptoms are you having that tell you you need to change your U joint?

i don't know for sure but figured it was the ujoint. it is making an unusual noise especially when turning or starting out. it sounds like directly underneath the seat area. i will take it for a spin again and try to be more specific after i get done with my chores.

thanks a lot for the info.

If you haven't done so already you may want to shoot some grease in the u-joint and see if that helps.

i took it out for a spin this afternoon, drove about 20 miles and didn't hear the noise. will grease it up just to be sure. don't know what was going on, just the old ford syndrome i guess. plus i am trying to do my shake down cruise before i do a real road trip. thanks guys.....

Just in case you decide to replace the U-joint. Here are the detailed instructions for removing the rear axle which is what is necessary to replace the U-joint:
