If you're going to buy a sonic tester, see if they have different sized probes.

I have a fairly expensive sonic tester (Dakota Ultrasonics) - and it has a bigger probe (1/2") I use for cylinders and a smaller one that fits into the intake ports and gives me readings in those tighter spaces.

Here's a decent sonic metal tester which includes calibration and a type of metal list for correct readings its listed on Ebay item number is 283251676406 less than $120.00
The one I have looks like this however its made in the USA by Dakota.
