Need help identifying a carb and distributor
I recently picked up a French V8 60 so it's really a V8 84 Aquilon. I'm getting ready to get some parts and want to make sure I get the right ones.
The distributor looks to me like one from an 8BA but I don't know that they interchange. Not sure but maybe mine was machined down to fit. An 8BA cap seems to fit perfectly. It has a stamping or casting number on the side that ready 38058. The paint is worn off the tag on the side but I can see remnants of the letter F. Originally they came with a Ducellier dist. The carb is a Ford 94. That much I know but I'm trying to narrow it down to the approximate year do I can order the correct rebuild kit. It's got the 1 1/16 on the side and I think that says it's a later one. The engine originally had a Zenith 32 NDIX. The engine ran last week with the current set up. Figured I'd replace the cap, rotor, points, plugs and rebuild the carb before running it again. Thanks and any help will be appreciated. |

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor
The engine looks like a Simca Vedette.
The picture of the distributor is for my earlier French Ford Vedette. |

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor
The carb says ECG 5 on it, and 1 1/16 venturi. That would make it a '55 Ford car 272 Y-Block carburetor, however these carbs from '54 up had a spark control valve on them. This carb doesn't appear to even have a spot for one in the base. I would guess it's a '55 Ford carb that someone swapped an older base on.

Spark port not on the base. On body.

Right, it's from a 58-59 Vedette. The casting on the bell housing is late 58. |

They aren't. That's why I'm trying to find out what I have. Originally they came with a Ducellier dist. and a Zenith 32 NDIX carb. Can you post some photos of your carb and distributor? Would also like to see what transmission you have since mine appears to be from a Jeep (GPW). |

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor
I will have to look this weekend. It is buried under a bunch of flatheads. I know my cap is broken.

Thank you. I bought a new cap from Van Pelt and it was just like the old one that came off the motor. Hoping the 8BA distributor on there now is an acceptable and good working mod. |

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor
That 8BA distributor may be one of the worst Henry ever made particularly in a non stock application

Trying to find out if the original type would be better and if it is if I can get parts for it. It does run. This was the previous owner starting it last week. The vacuum port on the distributor was open as was the spark port on the carb. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDSNNzO4M70 |

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor
Was the 8 ba dizzy modified to fit or a direct install. If direct I stay have Charlie NY on here modify a Chevy to suit a flathead & you will have the best.

I believe the stem size where it mounts is different so it's maybe been turned down so it will fit. Still learning so I'm not sure about that. |

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor
The tube that comes off of the vacuum canister on the distributor goes to the spark control port on the carburetor. (no conversion should be required)

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor
Does this picture show the spark control at the bottom? Mine doesn't have this so is the picture you showed with the arrow for the vacuum line to the distributor can? I found this this article that talks about the set up:
The Holley 94 and 2100 two barrel carbs came as the standard equipment 2 barrel carbs on the 1938 thru 1956 Fords. When converting the distributors on the Y-Block Ford engines from the original Load-O-Matic (LOM) design to the later model Ford (1957 and up) distributors, the Holley 94’s original distributor vacuum port for the distributor will supply an excess of negative pressure or vacumm signal to the late model distributors. The original Holley 94/2100 carb port design uses an anti-spark valve as well as a speed sensing venturi port and a ported vacuum signal just above the throttle blades to provide the proper vacuum signal to the original LOM distributors. All three of these work in unison to supply a vacuum signal to the distributor even at full throttle with the LOM system. This is a good thing for a LOM distributor equipped vehicle but a bad thing for the later model distributors. So the two will work together but what happens if I don't have the spark control? It says all three work in unison and I'm missing the spark control. Last edited by dlyle; 05-04-2021 at 11:39 PM. |

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor
The carb should be a Zenith/Stromberg 22.2 .

Re: Need help identifying a carb and distributor
Interesting to see these pictures AS I was going to say the distributor look "similar" to what was used on the Ford GP jeep. Now that you post the whole assy.........even more so, very similar to the same for a GP. My Distributor is missing the vacuum advance...
