Final report on Blast cabinet Gloves

Original post was 5/19/12 Asking for help finding a good Blast cabinet gloves.
For any one that has followed this thread, I just ordered another set of gloves. Ordered the 1st set 6/30/12 & I just ordered my 2nd. set today
8/10/13 THATS JUST SHORT OF 14MONTHS.
I use the cabinet pretty much every day,minus the days I did not make it out to the garage because of my Back problems but I would say that it has to be at least a full year (365 days) of use on these BAD boys.

Thanks Bill i have a set but havent used them yet. Im trying to use up all the Tip gloves i have on hand.Then i'll put these on.I get about a mth or two out of Tip's. Cant wait to try these. ken ct.

I'd go for thickish rubber gloves......the rubber absorbs the impact of the particles and is less likely to abrade.The blast cabinet in the electric motor rewind shop next to our place has the long rubber gauntlets built into the wall of the chamber...they just slip their hands and forearms into these and blast away......they have been in use for years.

A while ago, I took some parts for blasting to company on the docks.....they have a portable rig that goes all over the place doing blasting jobs.I got to know the young guy who did most of the blasting and noticed that his hand was all bandaged up.It turns out that the nozzle swept over his bare hand....he showed me the injury later when I picked up my stuff.....what a mess that stuff makes to flesh and bone.A lesson learned the hard way and always wear your PPE with that equipment.

Not to steal the thread but, When I was the buyer for my employer, I tried to order right gloves only from TIP. I was told you could only get lefts separately because the were used up by the operators holding parts while blasting with their right hand. When I explained that both techs in that shop were left handed all he could say was, "sorry".

I am the retired founder of TIP. Our replacement gloves are now available in left only, right only, and pairs. Sorry if we let you down in the past. Believe it or not, glove manufacturers like to sell only in pairs, but at an upcharge, will sell in left only or right only. We generally divide the pairs to left and right, and then buy a quantity of left only, as they are more popular. Favorite abrasive for blasting fuel pumps and carburetors is Glass Beads - giving the parts a satin finish. See www.tptools.com

I bought My Blast Cabinet From Trinco Co. in Michigan, in 1998, My Gloves are starting to show some wear, I've used my blaster quite a bit. Check with them for gloves.

Fritz, I wasn't complaining it was just that he thought I was trying to order the wrong glove. What's the odds of two out of two being left handed?

I have been using fine glass bead media for decades and works great for aluminum. Run 35-45 psi and have great results

I also use the rubber gloves the commercial Fishermen use. They are under $5.00. They used to carry Boss, but now it's another brand. Made is USA. Got at least 5 years out, and about 3 so far the replacement. Any coastal commercial fishermen supply shop will have good quality ones as fishing, especially in the winter is tough.

Original post date 08 / 25 /2012 today date 06 / 11 /2015 { dang close to 3 years }
The left glove finally gave out about 1 week ago / the only thing that we had to do is the stitching between the glove & sleeve gave out my daughter re sewed it 1st time with a straight stich it then failed in a short time / 2 nd time went with a zig zag stitch it lasted till the thumb wore out.
Lee ( My wife & head sand blaster ) used electric tape to patch it & when it failed she told me to order a new one that is why the 1 week failure to order time line / this time we will zig zag stitch the seam before using > Most of you don't use the blaster as much as we do 6 to 7 day a week most of this time a little less lately / so they will last you a lot longer then ours.

For blast cabinet gloves, we buy heavy duty rubber gloves and have a local auto trim shop add gauntlets. They have heavy duty sewing machines for leather, etc, and the gloves work with all kinds of media including silica sand and glass beads.
