Default 1940 Trunk Gasket

Getting ready to install a Bob Drake one piece trunk gasket on a 40 coupe. Any tips on the installation, doesn't look like the easiest to install without making a mess with the rubber adhesive. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Pretty easy and straight forward process actually. Scuff the metal lip so the adhesive works optimally.
Glue one top corner and allow it to dry thoroughly. Then, glue the other top corner and allow it to dry. Then complete the top (horizontal) are between the two corners. After that - work the remainder. I prefer to use 3M BLACK weather-strip adhesive in a tube.
If you're worried about getting glue on the body - mask the body off.

It is a prob as I put one on my '40 2 door sedan. I cleaned the metal real good around the trunk area and I also cleaned the gasket. I did about a foot at a time letting the black adhesive dry, as when you put on both the trunk area and the gasket it gets tacky after a few minutes and then you start installing. Takes time, but it came out pretty good. Just go slow and don't rush it. That was 6 years ago and still okay.

Sometimes the gasket is thicker than the old old. This makes it interesting when trying to unlock the trunk. I had to have TWO helpers push on the bottom of the trunk so that i could unlock the trunk. as the new gasket put more pressure on the lock mechanism.
