Default The 37 starts but wont run saga

I got the 37 to start up and it ran to the end of the driveway. Have not been able to get it to start again and run on its own?? I have checked the fuel pump and am getting good fuel and good spark. The car will start and will run as long as I keep my finger on the starter solenoid button. It actually runs super smooth. I tried tonight to start the car from inside with the push button starter and it does nothing. oddly enough it worked until the car died. Could this be the resister? It looks like it has a cheap after market resister on it. I did install a new solenoid and the ignition wire is on the battery side.

If it's wired correctly and has the correct solenoid , the button on the dash just serves as a ground when you push it causing the solenoid to pull in. The resistor should be in the line between the ignition switch and coil. If it runs as long as you push the button try moving the wire to the coil to the battery post. If it's a stock coil be sure to install the resistor in line.Pictures are worth a thousand words.

More info... Like is it 12v?

Connections might be the key, make suer you have it wired right. Then Since I guess it was running but you did something. The starter button is grounded to the dash. Might be the first place to look at.. GROUNDs

Then Look at condenser and coil.

Ok I am a big dummy, I had the starter cable and the battery cable swapped around on the solenoid. Car is starting up and running perfectly now that I swapped them around. Still showing no oil pressure on the gauge. I pilled wire and cleaned up the terminal on sender but no change. I am thinking I need to change the sender. Any ideas???

Remove the sender and attach a mechanical oil pressure gauge in its place for testing purposes....

Any auto parts supplier. It is just a round gauge with tubing. Something like this. You will most likely have to figure out the correct adapter.

Most regular auto places sell them with all adapters included. It'll get you at least knowing if there is pressure. Like any gauge, is it correct??? It can be hard to tell sometimes, they are not so great. But you will know right off if you have pressure.

Getting at the gauge in the vehicle can be interesting. There is a tool for it. Some people make them also. Search here. Keep at it.

Thanks for the advice I am 48 years old. I grew up around the early ford v8 crowd going to shows with my dad. He is 78 years old now and still loves these cars. I have a 39 ford that is all original and in tip top shape. I bought this 37 off ebay as a non running older restoration. Figured it would be a good opportunity for me to tinker with it and get it running. So far having a blast trying to get her back on the road. My father would love to come help me with her! I guess i am trying to prove i can get it back on the road my self!!

You will. Keep going! Dad will be proud I bet.

Pictures are always fun, if you can get it done, but don't take time that could be on building. Or pictures! ha

Ask away there is a crew of people behind you to help ever step. or you could involve your pops.
