RE: the choke post
I have been reading the post about flooding the model A. I have wondered about this for a while. I respect the many very knowledgeable people on this site. I know that these people know MUCH more than I do, but I have failed to see how flooding is a problem with the updraft carb. on the model A. I an see how the mixture can be too rich by over use of the GAV or even over use of the choke. But how to get raw gas through the intake manifold and into the cylinders escapes me. Perhaps there is an easy answer to my question. I do understand that my engine when cold will not start quickly unless I choke it for about one or two power strokes max.
I have been pondering this for a while. Always thankful for the wisdom dispensed on the FB.

Re: the choke post
Newbie Comment: Seems to me it would make little difference the location of the carburetor up or down draft since the flooding occurs in the the cylinder. Fuel vapor without getting burned has to get the plugs wet and likely not fire.

Re: the choke post
I know some folks that absolutely positively unequivocally say an updraft system can't be flooded, its impossible. Some here have even said it.
It's easy to disprove. Pull the choke and hit the starter button and don't let off it for awhile [key off]. Then look at the carburetor, now turn the key on, open to WOT and start cranking, see what happens. Maybe it'll start [ its a Model A], but, Have your trusty sparkler removal wrench handy. |

Re: the choke post
With a FIRM pull on the choke, Model A's flood easily, if you hold it on too long! They have NO fast idle link from the choke to the throttle butterfly, to advance the idle speed.
With too much choke, too long, you can DROWN the plugs!!! (trust me) Bill W.
