Default Stolen Trailer - Detroit Area

My enclosed trailer was stolen June 15 evening in the city of Livonia.

I have clear video of the three people and their pickup. They managed to unlock and steal it in less than five minutes. I have provided a copy of the video to the police. The trailer was empty except for the ramps and winch.

It's a 1993 Pace American enclosed trailer. VIN is 40LAB1620PP020077 with Michigan plate B299993

Trailer is all white with an aluminum stone shield in front. It has wheel covers and small NASCAR stickers on the bottom rear corners from the previous owner. If you spot it, please alert the Livonia, Michigan police.

Why wouldn't you put the video on youtube so we could all see it?

Did you have any kind of hitch lock on it ? Just be glad your car was not inside the trailer. Wayne

I've never posted on Youtube and would have to convert the video format to post it.

Well, some news; mostly good.

Today my son and I enjoyed the longest day of the year at Boulevard Trumbull, Detroit's city impound lot.

We got our trailer back. Detroit's finest spotted it somewhere it shouldn't have been and had it impounded. We're missing two locks, two ramps, two tie downs and four axle straps. On the outside, they took the cover for our battery box and the emergency brake plug which meant I had to cut that wire before connecting the Bargman plug. They unplugged the winch remote but tossed back inside for some reason so the winch is intact. It's home and blocked in with other vehicles now.

I have a strong tongue lock, door and ramp/door triple locked + the tongue is blocked 3" inches away with a 30k+ lb MotorHome. I hadn't thought of the steel cable - good idea, actually I have some heavy duty chain that would work.

I have used both on my 24' race trailer. Good way to leave your rig at night at events when staying else ware. Don't cheep out on the hitch tongue lock.

I live close to you and I am shocked you got the trailer back. This may well be the first crime ever solved in Detroit ! Wayne

if I had to guess you also had to pay the impound fee's also before you could get your trl. back

happen to me years back after my car was stolen and sat in that lot for about two weeks before I was contacted about it

I did have a lock on the trailer tongue. It was from Master and made of iron. It looked a like a ball on a plate and there was a lock bar that slid in from the side. The thieves put a stand under the lock and then used a four foot bar which slid the trailer sideways as he yanked. They then threw the broken chunks of the lock into their truck.

Last night my son and I relocked the tongue of the trailer, parked a truck in front of it and removed the wheels.

And yes I had to pay the impound fee. They provided the labor and yard to secure my toys. The impound business is based on mistrust and there was plenty of bulletproof glass. They took my money into another room to make sure it was genuine and then stood guard as we hooked up to make sure we didn't touch the other vehicles. A sobering evening.
