30 Fordor sediment bowl
The metal sediment bowl on my sedan hasn't been opened in 50 years or more and is locked up tight. Before I put pliers on the 4 winged nuts is there anything other than PB blaster to try?
I'd like to see how much crud it's caught since the 70s. |

Re: 30 Fordor sediment bowl
You can try other solvents but if it is that bad, I would replace it and drive car while you can soak whole sediment bowl and work on it's restoration. Forcing the parts very well may break it and hopefully you're out of gas or you have a leakless gas shut-off valve.
I don't know the situation of your sedan, whether It is apart or driving condition. |

Instead of trying to loosen the drain needle why not try remove the whole needle housing from the bottom of the filter.

Re: 30 Fordor sediment bowl
The entire bottom assembly unscrews from the cast iron bulb leaving a hole big enough to put your thumb in. That is usually very rusty and hard to get off.

Re: 30 Fordor sediment bowl
Ok, a picture is worth a 1000 words...my sedan is driving, and has the stick filter in the gas tank, but I thought the bowl might need cleaning. It couldnt hurt.
Thanks |
