Default Sequence number on frame

Can anyone tell me where the "secret" sequence number on the frame of a '56 Fairlane is? The door tag is missing and I suspect on another vehicle.

Not real sure about a '56 Ford, but my '55 has the number stamped on the front of the frame rail (passenger's side) at the very front of the frame. Very hard to see. Approximately under the battery. The only reason I could see mine is because the front clip is removed.

Sciala is correct and there is also one stamped in the rearmost crossmember,but it's stamped on top so the only way to see it is to remove the body from the frame.

It is a number you seek, but please don't confuse "sequence" number with "serial" number.
The serial numbers do not run in sequence, because of option availability that day. There is a starting number for that model year, from there the next 200,000 can be in nearly any order.

When did Ford start putting numbers on the frame? I was told they should be on the top of the right front frame rail of a '55 T-Bird when I went to title the car at MVD. But they couldn't find it on the frame (only on the vin plate on the firewall) and wouldn't give me a title.
Someone else said the car might be early enough that it doesn't have one on the frame.
The production code shows it was scheduled to be built on the 9th of Nov. ('54), if I'm reading it correctly, 9 L LP 51.
9=9th, L=Nov, LP= Los Angeles, 51=51st car of the day

Until the first bombing on the Twin Towers in NYC, (1995?) any serial number stamped on any made in USA Ford frame was something that should be done, but was not required to get the vehicle out the door. Serial numbers on engines were the same. In a perfect world, the numbers were stamped. If the guy had a bad cold and had to blow his nose, no number. If they gave him extra work that week, the same number all day. The people who work for states seem to think otherwise. They are not workers, they are bureaucrats.

I'll have to check my '55 for the number on the rear crossmember. The body is off the frame. (Ranch Wagon).

Agree with Paul H. and scicala . Found serial numbers at those two locations in the past on a 1956 Ford.

This is where it should be, behind the upper control arm but before the firewall. You may have to expose it with a wire brush to be able to see it.

Thanks that is good information for others but i don't need to find it again. It was a one owner car when i got it and i later restored it for my son. Its been sitting in my shop for the last 17 years because he never did come and pick it up.

Okay, I found the number on the frame under the battery box. It reads M6KT132590. As I understand it
M=292 4bbl.
6=1956
K=Kansas City assembly plant
T=Fairlane
132590= 32,590 serial #
Is that how the vin should read on the title, M6KT132590?

Thanks. Does anyone make reproduction data plates for '56 Fords?

Don't ever admit to a bureaucrat that you have put a new data plate on a vehicle or you will become an instant felon.

Their prices seem reasonable. I paid over a $100 for a Cadillac tag from another guy.

Thanks for all the info. I just retired from a govt. job so I know a little bit about them bureaucrats, and Ole Don, a buddy of mine who is an attorney says don't ever admit to anything or make any statements. It's easier for him to fix it if you don't. And just for the record I just wondered if anyone made them, I don't want one.
