How many of your drive your A as a "Daily Driver"
I for myself try to drive my A every day, i am slated for 7500 miles this year with about driving at 10 solid months at the rate i am going, Now I am in the Midwest so winter is a bit hard so you guys in the west....yea yea yea 12 months a year...!! hahah LOL!!
Just curious as I see so many club tours and that is when people seem to drive. thanks Mark 1. Drive 8-10 months a year as much as possible and everywhere 2. Drive at every opportunity I can get but mostly weekends and tours 3. Drive ONLY at Model A Events 4. Barely take it out of the garage

I drive my Vicky every Friday, Saturday and Sunday all day and usually in the evenings after work. It is my mental therapy. On a bad day it makes the world ok.

1983, was the last time Dad's Roadster was on the road. Having the car is what matters. Bob

Not every day, but quite frequently, until the the salt flies.
It would be up to the task, if I asked of it. It is my favorite ride... |

Re: How many of your drive your A as a "Daily Driver"
An observation I have made for the last 29 years of Model A owners I know (not just Fordbarn guys) is that the poll numbers on this poll of it were given to ALL Model A owners would be....
1- 1% 2- 5% 3- 15 % 4- 79% It is truly a shame that most Model A's are driven so little. Most sit idle because so many people are afraid to drive them, and don't realize that with a little knowledge, a lot of common sense and a little patience, they are good reliable cars. Most of these Model A's were driven 100-200K miles in their first life, but many current Model A owners are just afraid to drive them, seeing them more a museum pieces.... The other factor in my opinion, is that many Model A's currently on the road, are so poorly restored, they are barely driveable. I have a couple close friends that have properly restored Model A's that we often use to show other Model A owners what a Model A CAN drive like- when they see what the are capable of, it motivates them to fix their car well so it can be driven comfortably and reliably. Just my thoughts....... Steve Becker Berts Model A Center |

Re: How many of your drive your A as a "Daily Driver"
I would drive mine more if I could fix my leaking right rear tire. I took the tube out again today and used soapy water and still couldn't find a leak, even though I have to air it up every other day. I then took it in the house and put it under water in the kitchen sink and still no bubbles. Put it back together and will hope for the best. I've had the same problem with my front tractor tire. Had it off at least 6 times and never could find any leak, but every week, or sometimes up to 3 weeks, I need to air it up again.
The price of gas it what mostly keeps my driving down to a minimum. |

Re: How many of your drive your A as a "Daily Driver"
I drive my coupe daily except when there is salt on the roads. Average 10-12k per year, which is why I have regular plates on her.

Re: How many of your drive your A as a "Daily Driver"
Now that I've got mine running again, I'm a 2. I wouldn't want to get caught in the rain with my phaeton, no windows or anything to keep dry. I would guess I put a couple thousand miles a year on it give or take.

I would say #2. Florida is a fun place to own an "A". Lots of folks who "remember the days."

Re: How many of your drive your A as a "Daily Driver"
#1 Daily Driver
I have put on over 10,000 miles in the "A" a couple of seasons, and have been blessed with the "Driver of the Year" award twice from our club up here in "short season" Canada. Take it to work, tours, vacations; just about everywhere. My modern iron only is utilized in the winter, which is probably not good for it.

Re: How many of your drive your A as a "Daily Driver"
My '30 Coupe or '31 Roadster get driven daily with preference to the Coupe when it's below sixty degrees. Rainy days included. The Coupe was my only car from 1958- 1961. When there is salt or snow on the road, I use my '29 Briggs TS. The bad stuff can't do anything to the car that I can not fix. Gar Williams

(not daily, not going to work and not in salty period ) I wouldnt use it as often, but my wife forces me to do so. Life is baaaad We did more than 9000km this year, till now . btw Statistic is, that the average german Oldtimer (car older than 30 years with historic-plate) does 5000km (~3200miles) per year. |
