Default Charging problem

My car quit charging so I FIRURED IT WAS A DEAD ALT, WENT TO NAPA AND GOT ANOTHER AND WHEN I PUT IT ON AS SOON AS I FLIPPED THE MASTER SWITCH I BLEW THE FUSE ON THE STARTER I TOOK THE LEADS OFF THE ALT BUT STILL BLEW ABOUT 3 MORE FUSES WHEN I PUT LEADS BACK ON ALT AND STARTED THE CAR STILL NO CHARGING, ANY SUGGESTIONS ,, OH I HAD THE OLD ATL TESTED IT'S CHARGING GOOD

I'm confused, which is normal.
After you took the leads off the alt were you still blowing fuses ? Or only when the leads are attached ?

Just disconnect the alt but have the other power leads hooked up and see if everything works and the fuses don't blow.

So you start the car with blown fuse and run on alternator for coil power. I would guess a broken wire in the firewall junction box touching ground.

Did you also take the lighting and horn feed wire off? If the fuse blows, you have a short somewhere. It could be the dash light or any other hot electrical circuit in the system shorting to ground or cross shorting to another wire.
