Default Heater hose connections.

I have a 50 Custom. I need to find out which heater hose goes to which connection. There are four connections. I have looked at several posts and have found three different configurations according to the pictures of their engine compartment. Looking at the connections from the front of the car. What does the top left connection go to? Which connection goes to the water pump? The two remaining connections will be a no brainer and connect to each other.

Thanks to all who respond. John

Scroll through these photos: Pay special attention to the hoses on the 1950 Ford engine painted bronze color.

Here's my '50. I'm assuming they are correct.

Joe, what am I seeing? It looks like you have 3 heater hoses? What's that 3rd hose?

From a post on the Early Ford V8 Forum
pass head>bottom heater>top heater> pass water pump.

I am also wondering about the 3rd hose.

The 1950 set up shown below seems to make more sense.
What am I not understanding? Please explain (trace) the path of the coolant?
Were there 2 different types of heaters?

The hoses in photos 3/4 are correct. The hose from the head is hot water going to the heater control valve. The short hose connects the valve to the heater core. The return from the heater goes through the long hose to the water pump.

The 3rd hose is the U shaped hose running from the Heater Control Valve to heater. The plumbing in the pictures above is correct and matches the routing in the 1949-50-51 restorer's guide from the Early V8 Club.

Thank you Ken. Never thought about the heater control valve. That makes sense.
Otherwise, you would need a shut off petcock on the head as shown here.

I think the two hoses in the left of the photo are to a flow control valve and then the third hose is from the control valve to the heater core. Attached is a picture of Ken Henry’s ‘51 and it is plumbed this way also.

Zeke is correct. @ the O/P, I checked the "Green Bible" and that is the factory routing. I do recall some discussion about an alternative in the Shoebox newsletter, from way back when I had another '50, but don't remember the purpose of it.

One fine day in the middle of the night
Two dead boys got up to fight
Back to back they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot each other
A deaf policeman heard the noise
And came to kill those two dead boys

I see said the blind man to his deaf wife as he stuck his wooden leg out the door to see if it was raining.
